Valentine’s Day is just around the corner. Whether you go all out or try to forget the day altogether, it does seem to be a good time to indulge in a sweet romance. I’m happy to have Tanya Eavenson visiting again today to share her sweet romance, To Gain a Valentine. Before we begin, let’s take a quick peek at the story.
Pediatrician Patrick Reynolds works wonders with sick children, yet when it comes to pets, he’s clueless. But caring for his sister’s menagerie while she’s on vacation is the perfect answer to working through a broken engagement. Hoping to escape the memories, he returns to his hometown, the last place he’d expect to find love.
Life as a single mom is never easy, but pet shop owner Amabelle Durand has found contentment. When an old friend returns to care for his sister’s pets, he enlists her assistance to keep the animals alive. But when Amabelle’s young daughter falls ill, she finds herself attracted to more than the handsome pediatrician’s medical skills.
As Valentine’s Day approaches, will Patrick and Amabelle miss out on the love they’ve always desired? Or will their love take flight under the stars on this very special night?
Welcome back, Tanya! Let’s start with five fast favorites. What is your:
Favorite color? Periwinkle
Favorite season? Fall
Favorite movie? Mary Poppins
Cats or dogs? Both =)
Sports or music? Music
While we’re talking about favorites, what is your favorite dessert? Anything chocolate! 😉 Would you be interested in sharing a recipe? Absolutely!
The first book in the Gaining Love Series, To Gain a Mommy, includes a “Death by Chocolate” fundraiser, as a way to raise money for their town’s local fire department. When writing this portion of the story, I pictured my hero and heroine trying this dish. I hope you do and enjoy!
Chocolate Mousse by Tanya Eavenson
1, 12-ounce package of chocolate chips
2 1/2 cups whipping cream
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Microwave chocolate chips and ½ cup whipping cream in small bowl on high for 1 ½ minutes or until melted. Stir twice.
Stir in vanilla. Blending well and cool 5 minutes.
Blend 2 cups cream on medium speed until soft with soft peaks.
Fold cream into chocolate mixture.
Spoon into any bowl.
Refrigerate for 2 hours.
That sounds like a dangerous recipe to keep around. 😉 Tell us about To Gain a Valentine. Who is your favorite secondary character, and do you think you’ll include that character in a future story?
My favorite secondary character in To Gain a Valentine is Madi Reynolds. She’s elusive in a way, but she’s always there for the ones she loves. I actually brought her back as the heroine in the next book in the series To Gain a Bodyguard. The reader comes to find out why she’s so elusive and why she tries to stay under the radar.
Well, now I’m curious to read her story! Why did you choose this particular setting, and have you been there?
When deciding the location for story, an author has several choices. For me, what’s most important is determining if I’m going to make up a city or town or use a real location. Years ago, my husband and I took a youth group skiing during their Christmas break. We came across a quaint town called Helen, Georgia, and I immediately fell in love with its Bavarian-style Alpine Village and Christmas shops. Then when the time came for me to pick the setting for my Gaining Love Series, it was no surprise Helen, Georgia, came to mind. The scenic views, rustic chapels, and lovely shops had swept me off my feet. While the first story in the series, To Gain a Mommy, takes place in Melbourne, Florida, the last two To Gain a Valentine and To Gain a Bodyguard are located in Helen, Georgia.
It’s time to pack our virtual bags! What a fun town to visit! Do you have a favorite or “life” verse? Why is that one important to you?
My favorite life verse is Jeremiah 31:3. It simply says, “I have loved you with an everlasting love. I have drawn you with loving kindness.”
As a child as young as four or five, I had felt God’s presence drawing me (I even have writings where I’d expressed this realization in my life). At the age of five, I remember waiting at a bus stop to catch a ride to church, alone. It was during that time I received the Lord as Savior. I might not have understood much, but I understood the love of Jesus, and with childlike faith, accepted Him into my life. It wasn’t until I was sixteen when I owned my first Bible that I began to truly grow.
As I look back over my life, I can see how the Lord drew a small child to Himself and loved me regardless, even today.
What a sweet testimony! Thank you for sharing, Tanya, and for sharing about To Gain a Valentine, too!
