Are you an animal lover? I’ve read so many (and heard about more) great books with animals who play an important, if not leading, role in the story. Military and police dogs certainly have stories to tell, and I am excited to have Terri Reed visiting today to share her latest story, which is part of Classified K-9 Unit Christmas. Before we visit with Terri, let’s take a quick look at the stories.
When FBI K-9 agent Nina Atkins thwarts an attempted murder, she becomes a target of the killer—the same hit man US Marshal Thomas Grant is tracking. Even caught in the crosshairs, Nina’s reluctant to share her case, but working with Thomas may be the only way to capture a murderer before she becomes his next victim.
Yuletide Stalking by Terri Reed
Determined to stop an arsonist with the help of his accelerant-detecting K-9 partner, FBI agent Tim Ramsey must protect the only witness. But when the criminal begins stalking Vickie Petrov, can Tim convince her to trust him…and help her survive to see another Christmas?
Welcome back, Terri! Let’s start with a few fast favorites. What is your:
Favorite color? Blue
Favorite season? Fall-because of the changing colors and the cool, crisp air.
Favorite writing snack? Banana chips
Favorite beverage? Ginger beer
Favorite animal? Dog
Favorite movie? Flashdance
Favorite vacation destination? Hawaii
Favorite ice cream flavor? Jamocha
Speaking of favorites, do you have a favorite character from this newest story? Why is this character your favorite?
My favorite character in Yuletide Stalking, part of the Classified K-9 Unit Christmas, is Frodo the German shepherd. Trained to detect accelerants, Frodo is quick to sniff out crime. He takes a shine to the heroine, letting the hero know she can be trusted. Frodo is also protective as well as lovable. It’s fun to write stories that incorporate animals. I have two dogs of my own and they have so much personality.
Yes! They are unique characters, for sure. 😉 If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you most like to go?
I really want to go to Ireland. In fact, my husband and I are planning a trip next year for our 30th wedding anniversary. Both of my great-grandfathers on my father’s side were from Ireland. And my great-grandmother on my father’s side was as well. I did an ancestry DNA test and it confirmed the Irish blood running through my veins. I’m in the process of trying to puzzle out from where in Ireland they originated.
Oh, how fun it would be to visit the area where they lived! Can you give us any hints about what you’re working on now?
I just finished the prequel and first book in the upcoming 2018 Love Inspired Suspense continuity series. Tracking Danger, a short story will release in March and Mission to Protect will release in April. These kick off the Military K-9 Unit. There are nine books in total with a fabulous line-up of authors. I just started the first book in my own new series for Love Inspired Suspense. Since I’m in the early stages I don’t want to reveal too much yet.
We’ll have to guess…and watch for more! What is your favorite part of the writing/editing/publishing process?
My favorite part of the process is at the beginning–the brainstorming, plotting and developing of the characters. I use many different creative tools during this part of the process. I really enjoy doing the Enneagram tests on my characters as a jumping off point to building my hero and heroine. For plotting I follow the Hero’s Journey by Christopher Vogler.
Those sound like great resources for an aspiring author, too. Thanks for taking the time to share with us today, Terri!
Your turn! What is your favorite holiday memory?
