I love discovering new authors, don’t you? Today we are visiting with debut author Sara Foust. Although she has a great name, I can’t tell you how many times I’ve had to delete an “h” at the end… 😉 Sara’s new novel is Callum’s Compass. Before we visit with Sara, let’s take a quick peek at the story.
RYAN JENKINS’S fiancée was murdered. He couldn’t protect her.
With the death of her brother, Kat believes she is unworthy of love from anyone—even God. When a good friend elicits a promise that she will stop living in the past and then leaves her clues to a real-life treasure hunt, Kat embarks on an adventure chock-full of danger. To find the treasure, Kat will have to survive wild animals—and even wilder men. Can she rely on Ryan, the handsome wildlife officer assigned to protect her . . . without falling in love?
Ryan swore off love when his fiancée was murdered, but feelings long-buried rise to the surface around Kat. He volunteers to help with her treasure hunt, vowing to keep her safe. Together they venture deep into caves and tunnels . . . and even deeper into the depths of their unplumbed hearts.
Welcome, Sara! Let’s start with five fast favorites. What is your:
Favorite color? Green.
Favorite season? Fall.
Favorite writing snack? Peanut M&Ms, but I try to resist.
Favorite movie? The Princess Bride.
Favorite vacation destination? Camping in the mountains.
I love the mountains! Tell us a little about Callum’s Compass. Why did you choose this particular setting, and have you been there?
The setting for Callum’s Compass is my home turf. I have been on the hike to Debord Falls that my main character goes on at Frozen Head State Park. And the camp ground there is our family’s favorite. Kat also visits Norris Lake, which is where I spend my summers hanging out! If your readers would like more information about the area, they can sign up for my newsletter and receive a free digital scrapbook. The scrapbook has photos from the real-life locations that inspired scenes in Callum’s Compass, a little history of those locations, and some fun information about my experience with them.
How fun! What do you hope your readers take away from this novel?
I hope readers will related to my main characters, Kat and Ryan, in a personal way. Kat and Ryan journey on a literal treasure hunt in Callum’s Compass, but the best part of their journey is the way they both return to the embrace of God’s love. I hope readers will see that journey and, maybe, if they’ve drifted from or never known how wonderful His love is they will renew the desire to feel God’s presence in their lives.
What a great truth to share! We’d love to know a bit about you, too. Did you have a favorite story/book as a child? Why was it a favorite?
James and the Giant Peach. My mom read this to my brother and I before bed. I can still imagine the giant peach’s flight with the bugs. It spoke to my imagination in a way other books never had.
Kids have such fun imaginations, too. Aside from reading and writing, what hobbies do you enjoy?
My family loves to camp. We especially like campgrounds that feel like we are in the middle of nowhere: Frozen Head and Cades Cove are two of our favorites. We also like to hike. And we are really involved in 4H livestock projects.
It sounds like you have some fun times to get away from the everyday routines. Can you give any hints about what you’re working on now?
I’ve been marketing and prepping for the Callum’s Compass release for the past two months. Now that it is finally here, I will focus on the next two books in the Love, Hope, and Faith Series. I plan to finish up edits on book #2, Camp Hope, and I hope to resume writing on book #3, Rarity Mountain, by January 1st.
It certainly sounds like you’re a busy woman! Thanks for taking the time to share with us today, Sara!
Your turn! Do you enjoy camping?
