Have you had an opportunity to meet Toni Shiloh? Her newest release, Returning Home, features a handicapped hero—a fresh perspective from the typical “hunky hero” of most romances. I’m happy to have Toni back to visit with us today. (She also shared about her previous novel, Buying Love, here.) Before we visit with Toni, let’s take a quick peek at Returning Home.
Jo Ellen Baker is shocked to find out that the boy who teased her mercilessly throughout high school, has returned to their hometown of Freedom Lake, and he’s missing a leg. When his mother asks her to renovate their carriage house to give him a place to gain his independence back, she wants to say no. But one look at him brings a rush of forgotten feelings.
Evan Carter can’t believe he has to return home and live with his parents. Every hope and dream he ever had dissipated in a car crash that cost him his leg. Stuck in a wheelchair, he’s forced to reexamine his relationship with God and the local carpenter, Jo Ellen Baker.
Will renovating his home open the door for a mended relationship, or are some wounds too deep to heal from?

Favorite color? Pink
Favorite season? Spring
Favorite writing snack? Trail mix or Peanut butter M&Ms
Favorite beverage? Tea!
Favorite animal? Elephant
Favorite movie? I cannot pick a favorite movie. Maybe Pride & Prejudice because I’ve watched every version. ☺
Favorite vacation destination? Disney World!
Favorite ice cream flavor? Chocolate chip cookie dough or salted caramel
Tell us a little about Returning Home. Who is your favorite secondary character in this latest novel, and do you think you’ll include that character in a future story?
Michelle is probably my favorite secondary character. She is the heroine in book two, so readers will definitely be able to get to know her more.
It’s always good to know there’s more coming! 😉 Why did you choose this particular setting, and have you been there?
Freedom Lake is a fictional setting but I did get the idea off of a real place. Freedom Lake was formerly an African-American only resort. Back in the time where people were still segregated. I thought that was fascinating and used it as a backdrop to my setting.
Now I’m curious as to how you wove those two together. Speaking of interesting settings, if you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you most like to go?
Italy! I’ve been there before when I was enlisted in the Air Force. However I would love to visit more places and eat my way around the country. ☺ sigh I dream about it often.
You probably saw many amazing places while in the Air Force. But I agree that Italy would be a fun one to visit! Paper or e-reader? There are certainly pros and cons to each. Which is your favorite?
I don’t have a favorite. I have an e-reader which I use when I’m going places like doctor’s appointments. I also of course read on it while at home. When I go to the library, I check out paperback or hardbacks. I’ll take a book anyway I can get it. ☺
LOL — I love that answer! Can you give any hints about what you’re working on now?
Sure! I decided to write a story just for the pure fun of it. No worries about whether or not I’ll publish it. God put a medieval fantasy story on my heart. It’s about a young woman gifted with healing who must heal the 2nd borne prince. Only the source of his poisoning is quite mysterious and the 1st borne prince is offering distractions of the heart.
That does sound fun. Thanks for taking the time to share with us today, Toni!
Your turn! Toni shared that she likes peanut butter M&Ms. Which M&Ms are your favorite?
