We have the sweet privilege of meeting author Toni Shiloh today. 🙂 Her new novel, Buying Love, just released last week. Before we begin our visit, let’s take a quick look at the story.
Nina Warrenton is ready for the next step in her life plan—marriage, but no one has proposed. Taking matters into her hand, she places an ad in the newspaper hoping to entice a willing stranger. But when she begins to fall for the small-town chef, she realizes how much she wants him to love her and not her money.
Dwight Williams needs fast cash to save the family restaurant. When he sees Nina’s monetary offer for a husband, he goes for it. He’s determined to save the legacy his dad left him, but can he let it go to prove his love for her?
Can Nina and Dwight find true love, once money has entered the equation?
Welcome, Toni! Let’s start with five fast favorites. What is your:
Favorite color? Pink. It used to be blue but after having 2 boys and being surrounded by testosterone overload, I felt the need to have some femininity sprinkled in.
Favorite season? Spring! I love the flowers. Summer! I love the heat. Fall! Football. Okay, I can’t choose.
Favorite beverage? Big Red I’m from Texas, look it up. ;).
Favorite animal? Elephants. I actually got to ride one a few years ago at the Maryland Renaissance Festival. Highlight of the day.
Favorite ice cream flavor? Chocolate chip cookie dough. Pure genius.
Mmm! Me, too! Let’s talk about Buying Love. Why did you choose this particular setting, and have you been there?
Maple Run is a fictional town in Virginia. However, I was inspired by a place I passed by on the way to pick apples with my kiddos. The fall foliage and the open spaces were so inspiring I wanted to set a novel there. I like the idea of creating a town from scratch so that’s what I did.
It’s fun to imagine! Do you have a favorite character from this story? Why is this character your favorite?
Dwight is definitely my favorite. Not that I don’t love Nina and the rest of the crew, but his desire to prove his feelings warmed my heart. I also love how he wants to protect his family. I had no idea he’d be such an awesome guy.
I love hearing about characters developing along with their stories. 🙂 Can you give any hints about what you’re working on now?
Yes. ☺ I just finished Delaney’s story last month. Now I’m working on a side character from that book for NaNoWriMo (National November Writing Month).
You’re going to be a busy girl! (For those who don’t know, NaNoWriMo is a challenge to write 50,000 words in one month. That’s a lot of writing!) What is your favorite part of the writing/editing/publishing process?
The first chapter!! I adore letting my fingers fly and the characters establish themselves. I don’t plot so it’s fun to see where the story goes and how the characters develop.
There’s just something about a fresh beginning… Do you have a favorite or “life” verse? Why is that one important to you?
Philippians 4:6-7, “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; 7 and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus” (NKJV). I tend to worry and stress. If I’m not careful, my writer’s mind will spend a whole host of possible dire outcomes. So, I say this verse to stop myself before I get started.
What a great reminder, and one we all need sometimes! Thanks for taking the time to visit with us, Toni!
Your turn! Have you ever ridden an elephant? Would you, if you had the opportunity?
