It’s so fun to “meet” new authors! I had the privilege of “meeting” Melanie Snitker not too long ago, and we discovered we actually have quite a bit in common. 🙂 I am excited to be able to introduce her to you today, and to share her brand new book, Safe in His Arms. Before we meet Melanie, here’s a quick look at the story.
When a beautiful woman walks into his diner asking for a job, Joel Ash can’t bring himself to say no. The more he gets to know Anna, the more he’s convinced she’s hiding something. Intrigued and drawn to protect her, he prays he can ensure her safety and guard her heart. Even if it means risking his own in the process.
Anna Henderson is on the run. In a new town, she wants nothing more than to trust Joel and the family offering her a fresh beginning. She’s secured vital evidence that could put her obsessive ex behind bars and out of her life. But without the ability to access it, she’ll always be looking over her shoulder.
Worried her past will catch up with her, can Anna ever feel safe in Joel’s arms?
Welcome, Melanie! What do you hope your readers take away from Safe in His Arms?
I want my reader to come away with the hope and realization that, no matter where they are in their lives, they can find safety in the arms of God. The Bible verse I put in the front of the book reminds us of this: You came near when I called you, and you said, “Do not fear.” O Lord, you took up my case; you redeemed my life. Lamentations 3:57-58. When we’re going through our day-to-day lives, I think we tend to get so focused on what’s going on in our world, that we forget God’s there, just waiting to share some of our burdens with us.
If we would only allow Him to carry some of our load… And yet in our day-to-day, it’s hard to truly let it go sometimes! If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you most like to go?
When I was growing up and then in college, I knew I wanted to either be a published author or a marine biologist. Sharks and rays, especially, fascinated me. I dreamed of swimming with the sharks and studying them up close one day.
I’ve always wanted to go to Australia and visit the coast there. Even though I don’t necessarily have a huge desire to SCUBA dive with the sharks now, snorkeling along the Great Barrier Reef would be incredible!
I’m not sure I’d want to swim too close to sharks, but it would be fun to see so many sea creatures in person, rather than just in pictures. Can you give any hints about what you’re working on now?
I’m just starting to write the fifth book in my Love’s Compass series. For those of you who’ve read the other books, this one will focus on Lance’s youngest sister, Beth. I can’t share much more than that at this point, but I can say that we’ll see both Lance and Avalon again in this book.
What is your favorite part of the writing/editing/publishing process?
Writing that first draft is exciting and so much fun. I tend to dive right in and develop the story as I go. Even when I plot things out, the characters take on a life of their own. I always enjoy seeing the scenes that I didn’t plan come to life. Sometimes, I’m as surprised by how a situation has played out as my readers are.
So you can enjoy the adventure, too! 🙂 If you could offer a word of encouragement to an aspiring author, what would you say?
Don’t give up! If God’s placed a story on your heart that you’re meant to share with others, everything will come together.
With the first book I published, I worked on it for years. I didn’t have a lot of time to write during that phase in my life. But I still wrote when I could, even if it was just a few pages at a time. In the end, I was glad that I didn’t give up on it. That particular story is still very close to my heart and one of my favorites.
I imagine discouragement sets in at some point for all of us. Being faithful to what God has called us to is so important! We love to chat about sweets… What is your favorite dessert? Would you be interested in sharing the recipe?
It was impossible to narrow the desserts I enjoy to just one. Ha! But here’s one of my favorites. This recipe is originally from a cookbook called Not Just Beans by Tawra Jean Kellam. This is one of my favorite kinds of cookies!
Honey Spice Snaps
1 cup brown sugar, packed
¾ cup shortening
¼ cup honey or dark corn syrup
1 tsp. ginger
½ tsp. cinnamon
¼ tsp. cloves
1 ½ tsp baking soda
2 ½ cups flour
½ tsp salt (I usually leave this out)
In a mixing bowl, cream brown sugar and shortening. Add the egg and honey or corn syrup and mix well. Mix all the dry ingredients in a separate bowl. Stir into the sugar mixture until well blended.
Shape the dough into balls. Dip half the ball in water, then roll it in sugar. Place the sugar side up.
Bake on an ungreased cookie sheet (I always use parchment paper) at 350’ for 12-15 minutes. This recipe makes approximately 2 dozen.
These cookies are sweet, but not too sweet. And I love how soft and chewy they are!
Those sound similar to some of my favorite spice cookies — yum! Thanks for taking the time to visit with us today, Melanie!
Your turn! Do you prefer to read a series or individual books?
