Fall is a busy season, especially with the holidays just around the corner. Sometimes shorter novellas are a perfect fit for those smaller windows of reading time. I’m happy to introduce you to Dawn Cahill today. Dawn’s novella, When Lyric Met Limerick, might be just the right size for a busy fall day. 😉 Before we meet Dawn, here’s a quick summary of her story.
He’s a moody songwriter asking for trouble. When their lives collide, explosions are bound to follow.
There’s only one problem.
He attracts trouble like Pike Place Market attracts tourists. Why would smart, gifted Luna want to be with a lying, thieving dreamer like him?
But without Luna, Howard faces a future as bleak as a Seattle winter. Will God give him a second chance to win the girl of his dreams?
Welcome, Dawn! Let’s start with five fast favorites:
Cats or dogs?
I can choose both, right?
Sports or music?
It changes every time I’m asked that question! Thus—too many to name.
LOL. What inspired you to write this particular story?
An online fiction class encouraged me to write from the POV of someone as different from me as possible. So I chose a young, rebellious male singer-songwriter. But the more I wrote, the more I discovered he really was a lot like me. For instance, his passion is music, and without it, his life would be extremely dreary.
Sounds like what was intended to be a challenge turned out to have an interesting twist. What do you hope your readers will take away from this story?
God’s blessings pour down on us even when we don’t deserve them!
We never do deserve them, do we? And yet He is faithful and good, all the time! Have you written song lyrics? Ever had any recorded?
Yes, when my kids were small, I used to make up songs for them. Sometimes I made a new melody, sometimes I took an old favorite and changed up the words. Although I grew up in a musical family, I was never interested in being a recording artist.
As you might guess from the title of my new release, “When Lyric Met Limerick” is full of song lyrics. Getting into the head of a twenty-something aspiring musician was a fun challenge!
I’m sure your musical background helped quite a bit, though. 🙂 Can you give any hints about what you are working on now?
Yes – “Prodigal Road,” the sequel to “Sapphire Secrets.” Plus, book two in the series Hot Topic Fiction is currently under construction. Here’s a link with details on all my books: http://dawnvcahill.com/my-books/
Awesome. Do you have a favorite Bible verse? Why is that one special to you?
Psalm 16:11 – You will show me the path of life; in Your presence is fullness of joy; At Your right hand are pleasures forevermore. (NKJV) I love this verse because it describes in a nutshell my relationship with God. It’s not “trudgery” (my word for trudging through drudgery). It’s pure joy. I only wish I’d understood that long before age 30.
I imagine we all have things we wish had learned long ago…lol Thanks so much for sharing with us today, Dawn!
